This is written by the HSC for duty holders, including employers and those with health and safety responsibilities for others to help them comply with their legal duties.

These include identifying and assessing sources of risk, preparing a scheme to prevent or control risk, implementing, managing and monitoring precautions, keeping record of precautions and appointing a manager to be responsible for others.

Applicable since 1st July 1999 in England and Wales and 4th April 2000 in Scotland.

How do they affect you?

            - Your plumbing system must be installed/maintained to comply with the regulations

            - You have a responsibility to prevent contamination of drinking water

Formed in 1990, the DWI works independently from the water companies to ensure the high quality of drinking water. 

The water samples taken by EWS are only tested by UKAS accredited laboratories.  The results are conveyed without change. 

All pre-commission cleaning and flushing activities are carried out in accordance with BRSIA guide lines.

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) assesses applicants on their health and safety policy statement, their organisation for health and safety and their specific health and safety arrangements, all to a high standard that is acceptable to both CHAS and independent buyers.
